» CHRISTMAS EVE

Merry Christmas everyone!
Today we literally woke up, got into the car, and drove for 3 hours to Gothenburg to visit family. Hence this picture of the tree from 2014 (!).

We had a lovely time in Gothenburg and with the family, and had lots of food and chocolate cake that my sister baked - too bad I don't have pictures to share.
But the roads! So weird to drive there - the roads are a bit odd. And the way back home was horrible because of the darkness - pitch black. But we made it back safely.

How did you guys spend Christmas Eve?

» THE DAY BEFORE CHRISTMAS

Does anyone else also get super excited when you see a bunch of gifts under
the tree? Yaaaas!
Isn't the cake adorable?

For the past 6 (!) years, me and my friends have had a mini Christmas celebration. It's a tradition we all look forward to each year.

This year we celebrated with home-made pizza and potato salad, and obviously delicious cake.
I got a bunch of lovely presents, including a really cute picture of all of us in Rome. Seriously adorable! Need to share it here.

» FOR THE LOVE OF FLOWERS

I'm trying to finish my thesis before deadline - the struggle is real. But I thought why not write a blog post while I'm at it. So hi guys!

Let's have a recap.
Monday - Christmas lunch with work. We even got presents, so cute!
Then I went shopping (for gifts) with my mom - always shopping last minute..

Tuesday - didn't leave the house. PJ's all day (obviously writing my thesis..).

Wednesday (technically yesterday) - I left the house today (=accomplishment), and went to the gym (=accomplishment x2). I had to text my sister to have her tell me to go. Clearly, I'm highly motivated.
I also made the worst pasta ever. It's bean pasta, and it tasted like cardboard.
Also, I've been playing my old playlists on YouTube. Am I the only one who still doesn't have Spotify?

Tomorrow (technically today) will hopefully be more exciting, so stay tuned for more interesting posts.
Also, should I write the blog posts in Swedish too?
Goodnight.

» PINK BACTERIA

What do you guys think about that pretty pink plate?
I love it!

Yesterday was my last day of uni until January (yay!). But I have to do a lot of independent studies for the coming weeks because the first draft of my thesis needs to be submitted in about a week (not so yay).
What's my thesis about, you might wonder.
*Drum roll*
Protein-protein interactions, studied in vivo.
The title is super boring, so I will have to change it to make it sound more fun - which it is (fun)! I love it!
I could do more science-y type of posts here if you guys want.

The best part about studying from home? Chilling in your PJ's all day.
Downside: procrastination. Lots of it.

Also, I'm looking for a new camera since mine broke down. Any tips?
Have a lovely Thursday!

» LONDON, UNI, LIFE UPDATE

Hi guys! I haven't blogged in a really long time, and I actually miss it. Also, can we take a moment to appreciate that you're still checking in, even though I'm not blogging. Thank you!

Let's start with a life update, shall we?
I've been so busy lately with work and uni - I'm finally doing my thesis, which is crazy! I can't believe that I'll be graduating soon. As for work, it's also been a bit hectic, but very fun. And I went to my first ever work-related Christmas party last week. Talk about setting the mood for this month. What else? I went to London (crazy and super fun), been online shopping like crazy, and looking for good cameras since mine broke down. Do you guys have any recommendations?

I've been thinking that since it's December, almost Christmas, and almost 2017 (!), I would blog every other day or so. Maybe do a giveaway to celebrate the blog? We'll see how that goes. Let me know what you guys want to read more about.

Let's do this!

» I'M FEELING 22

Thanks Tay (as if we're BFF's) for making this song - kind of my anthem (kind of kidding).
I'm 22. My mom had me when she was 22. Tick tock.
All jokes aside, I'm so thankful for so many things, and couldn't ask for more.
So I'll keep this short.

As many of you, I have fears. I'm scared of sharks, deep oceans (hence the sharks), knives, insects, etc.. But the only way to deal with our fears - and actually overcome them, we need to face them. Right in the eye, literally.
Last Friday (the day of my bday) I was surprised at lab when I got handed a locus (insect). I got even more terrified (hands shaking kind of terrified)  when it was moving, trying to escape the little container..
As it was a full day lab, I would be spending the entire day with a few locuses.. Yay. And we were told to not let them escape. Yeah right, I thought. As if I'd even touch them.
Fast forward a couple hours, I'm not gonna lie as I was still very terrified. But I had managed to touch it, and even hold it. Me, holding an insect. Surreal.

Moral of this story, we should strive to face our fears, to step out of our comfort zones, because that's when things get pretty extraordinary.
Let's empower each other.
We should all smile a lot, travel more, work with something we absolutely love, and take control over what scares us. Let's start by changing the small things.

Sincerely,
A fearless (-ish) 22 year old.

» MORE CHOCOLATE, PLEASE

Guys! I made this super chocolate-y, delicious, all around amazing cake the other day, and I just had to share it with you.
It's basically a regular chocolate cake (4 layers), with ganache filling, and then frosting on top. Along with some sprinkles, marshmallows and caramel.

Apart from baking that super awesome cake, I have been really busy working and catching up with my friends.
What have you guys been up to?

» RAMADAN KAREEM

Two posts in a day: awesome!

Even though I'm a week late, I'd like to wish you all Ramadan Kareem.
Can we all just take a moment and appreciate this adorable balloon?
I cut out letters from old magazines and glued them onto a balloon, and voilá (although it would've looked nicer on a helium balloon, but a girl's gotta work with what she's got).
Now I want to make balloons for a living. Is that possible?

Let's spend the remaining weeks dreaming about bread and pasta, shall we?

» SCHOOL'S OUT

Hey guys! I hope you're all having a wonderful summer so far.
I had my last exam ten days ago, and it feels great to not have to worry about that anymore. I've been spending my days at work, in the sun, with friends and family, and just enjoying my freedom (lol for drama).
I have some fun things planned throughout the summer, which I'm looking forward to. And the best thing perhaps; Mona will be home! (only cause she might be reading this)
More updates will come your way.

Let's make this the best summer ever! (I'm obviously overly excited)

» FOR THE LOVE OF FUTURE POSTS

Old picture I took on a bike trip. I'll definitely (try) to bike there this summer.

I was going back in the archive to find a picture, and came across my old posts. Oh how I miss those times! And how excited I was about high school graduation.
I even used to take my camera with me wherever I went; to take nice pictures for the blog. What happened?
I'll try to write more frequently here, so I have something to look back at in a few years. That's the reason I started this blog in the first place.
Expect to see more life updates and super long posts.

Back to reality now; study for finals - ugh.

Laila

» HANGOUTS WITH MY FAV GIRL

Apparently I was going to post this, but never actually made it - typical.
Nado (short for Nadine) is obsessed with snapchat, AND she knows how to save the pictures. Genius 5-year-old.

I'm studying at the moment, and kind of procrastinating - simultaneously. I'm mainly trying to tell myself that there are only 2 weeks left, and then it's officially summer. I can't wait!

Do you guys have finals coming up?

» TURBANS AND LIFE UPDATES

My sister and I during Valborg

Hi guys!
It's been way too long since I updated the blog, and I've missed it.
I've got a lot of things going on at the moment, so I've had to prioritize, as per usual.

Year 4 has almost come to an end, which is insane. Where did time go? So now I'm prepping for finals and assignments.
I got my first "real" (within science) job! If that's not crazy, I don't know what is. More about that when I've fully grasped that I've got a job.
Bonus update: I'm apparently allergic to cats, dogs and horses. No comments.

How have you guys been?

» MOST RECENT INSTA POSTS

So I've been off, again. But I promise that my excuses are valid, and that finally exciting things are happening. I'll let you guys know when everything's set.
This week I've just been going to lectures and I've been a bit sick, which isn't very fun when you have a lot of studying to catch up on. But life happens, and you just have to roll with it. With a thermos of tea and good music, I'm slowly tackling that study pile.

I've just uploaded a bunch of insta pictures so you have something to look at while I'm off again - haha.
Thank you for still following me here even though I don't really post as frequently. How about we change that?

I hope you guys have a great weekend!

» ON TOP OF THE WORLD

We went to this gorgeous hiking place during easter. It was too cold to actually enjoy the hike, but we still managed to enjoy the crisp air.
When we had given up on the weather, we drove around in the little town, trying to find a place to eat, and ended up in a cozy, but very odd café. They had pictures of bats on the walls and a chandelier made out of heads of dolls - like a scene from a horror movie.
The waiter asked us where we were from, to which we literally stared at him, looked at each other, blinked a couple of times and said "uhm, Malmö?". Hello identity crisis.

Has it ever happened to you guys?

» 20's

I'm just realizing how this actually works - being in your 20s, and just exploring endless oppertunities. And also how when you keep on trying, there really is a light at the end of the tunnel.
With so many exciting things going on, I have (yet again) neglected the blog. I will update you guys in the next (several) posts.

» THAT SMILING MOMENT

I was going through old blog posts, and somehow I stumbled upon a video I made about two years ago (do you remember my failed attempts to make youtube videos, and then realized that I was awkward and deleted them). You know when you're not having the best day and you find something that just lifts everything up and makes you smile? That was my smiling moment.
The craziest part? I have actually crossed off some of these things from my bucket list.
Now the video isn't the best (it's pretty lame), but I'll share it with you guys. Who knows, maybe it will make someone else smile.

» BLANK SPACE

I've been listening to Taylor Swift on repeat for a few days now. Old songs, new songs and everything in between. It's safe to say that I love her. Also, can we talk about how gorgeous the dresses are in this video?

Do you guys have any songs on repeat?

» THIS WEEKEND

It's been a good weekend. I went to the gym, got a little studying done, and hung out with both friends and family. And obviously; I had chai latte (with soy milk - because why not).
I live for this drink (LOL). It's just soooo good!

Something I really want to do right now: go to the forrest for some cool blog pics. Or for a nice walk. Seriously guys, I'm just sitting here waiting for spring. It was snowing this weekend! Even though the snow didn't stick, and it didn't snow for long; it snowed. It's March. We're just waiting for the sun to make an appearance.

I hope your weekend was good and warm.

» NAILS NAILS NAILS

This is an old picture.
I was about to describe it, but then I remembered that this isn't a lab report
(and that I can use abbreviations - yaaas).

A couple of weeks ago I was looking at my nails and thought why do I not take care of myself better? So my mama and I went to get our nails done. Nevermind that I chose a nailpolish that didn't look good on me; I can't tell you how good I felt when the girl at the nail salon removed all the excess skin and made my nails look somewhat okay to look at.

"But that's so shallow!", you might think. And I agree with you, it is very shallow. There is more to a person than how their nails look or how frizz-free their hair is. But we can't deny that we live in a world where we feel better when we do physical changes to ourselves (I actually think we've been like that since the beginning of time). There's nothing wrong with wanting to feel better about yourself - and wanting to look and feel your best everyday. Because you're doing it for you. What would be wrong is if you try to look better so that other people will (somehow) accept you. Basically when you're not doing things for yourself, but for someone else. No matter what it is.

Everything starts with you.
Keep 'em nails nice (jokes).

Laila

» HOW LONG IS FOREVER?

My cousin just sent this to me and I had to share, because it is so good. And very true. Make every moment last, even if it won't last a lifetime. It's all about the little things; the details. Not everything is meant to last a lifetime, but if we learn to appreciate things as they are, no matter how short they last, I'm pretty sure we will be happier, stronger and one step closer to whatever it is we want to accomplish.

Let's start with one second.

Laila
